Thank you for showing an interest in the James River Country Club Tennis Program and facility. We have nine Har-Tru (clay) courts, two with lights, upon reservation. Each year we resurface all nine courts which gives you the best quality courts.
Our Tennis Pro Shop is well suited for all of your tennis needs. There are two shower/locker rooms. The Pro Shop is equipped with all different types of tennis gear and clothing. If you need it and we don't have it, the Pro will get it for you. The Pro Shop is open from 8:30 a.m. till dusk and the court lights will stay on 2 hours after sunset. Our friendly shop attendants will assist you in court reservations, which are taken one day in advance.
Our Tennis Pro, Brian Hogge, is certified by the USPTR. Brian has many years teaching and coaching experience along with the knowledge of racket needs, racket stringing and lessons. His lessons vary from private hitting lessons, drill clinics and a strong Junior Program. Brian uses many teaching aids to help with our improvement, ranging from a ball machine (also available for your own use), video-taped lessons, and a philosophy where he helps you be your best coach.
The tennis schedule offers a wide variety of special events and leagues throughout the year. The most popular events include July 4th Mixed Doubles, Singles and Doubles Club Championships, Fall Open Singles, the Member/Guest Tournament and an occasional Tennis Party. The most popular Adult leagues are the Senior Men's Doubles and Ladies' Singles League. For the Junior Program we offer three seasonal, 8-week sessions for all junior abilities; plus, during July we have a junior team tennis league with two levels.
Today, servicing a tennis membership of over 400 annually, the JRCC tennis program continues to be very dynamic with an increase in usage of over 40% during the last 5 years. The JRCC tennis program was awarded the Tennis Club of the Year in 2007 for the state of Virgina by the USTA. This is a very prestigious award and JRCC will be displaying the award and banner for the entire season of 2008.
